Beatrix Lehmann

Beatrix Alice Lehmann (born July 1, 1903 in Bourne End , Buckinghamshire , England , died July 31, 1979 in London ) was a British theater and film actress , as well as a theater director and novelist .

Life

Lehmann was the youngest daughter of Rudolph Chambers Lehmann and his wife Alice Marie Davis. Her family had roots in Germany, Scotland and America, among others, and was influenced by Jews. Her father was a journalist ( Punch , The Daily News , Granta ) and from 1906 to 1910 a member of the British House of Commons ; her great-grandfather Leo Lehmann and her great uncles Rudolf Lehmann and Henri Lehmann were well-known painters; her grandfather was the publisher Robert Chambers . Her older sisters was Helen Chambers Lehmann (1899–1985) and the later writer Rosamond Lehmann , her brother was the later poet and publisher John Lehmann .

She was trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made her theatrical debut in 1924 in the play The Way of the World in London. At the theater she embodied other roles, including adaptations of Schuld und atonement and staircase . In 1946 she became a director for the Arts Council Midland Theater Company. In addition to feature film roles, she also appeared in British television series, including Doctor Who .

She died in Camden , London in 1979 .
