Behexen is a black metal band from Finland .

history

Behexen was founded in 1994 by Torog, Horns and Reaper, at that time the band name was Lords of the Left Hand , under which Reality Is in Evil was released in 1995 . In 1997 and 1998 the demos Eternal Realm and Blessed Be the Darkness followed . After that, Reaper left Behexen and was replaced by Gargantum. This was followed by the entry of Lunatic. Blessed Be the Darkness brought the band a contract with Sinister Figure. In 2000 the debut album Rituale Satanum was released .

In 2003 Veilroth joined the band. Behexen then signed a contract with Woodcut Records and released the second album By the Blessing of Satan , followed by a split release with Horna . This was followed by the separation from Lunatic. In 2004 Behexen also split from Veilroth, and Reaper returned to the band. On December 28, 2004 Behexen performed with Gorgoroth , Horna and Soulgrind .

In October 2005 the Tour of the Black Moon took place together with Archgoat and Hell Militia . On September 29, 2006 Bexehen played at the Misanthropic Violence Festival III in Austria and on January 12, 2007 in Tampere with Archgoat, Baptism, Devil Lee Rot and Autopsy Torment . In 2008 the album My Soul for His Glory was released , after which the band performed on March 22nd with Eternity and Annihilation 666 in Germany at Hellstorm over Harz, on August 8th with Horna and Baptism in Tampere and on December 13th at the Satans Convention Festival in Germany with Amon Amarth , Satyricon , Belphegor , Desaster and Horna, among others . A split release with Satanic Warmaster followed .

On October 10th, 2009 the band played at the Fireblade Force Festival in Lichtenstein / Sa. with Impaled Nazarene , Taake , Eternity, Eminenz , Hell Militia and Angantyr, among others . From November 20 to 22, Bexehen went on the 25 Years of Chaos tour with Mayhem and Cavus. In addition, the guitarists were replaced in 2009, and the new line-up was first heard in 2012 on Nightside Emanations . While working on the album, Hoath suffered from health problems, which according to his own admission did not hinder the creative process.

style

According to Gordon E. from Time for Metal , Behexen enjoyed "a unique selling point, mainly due to the high-pitched screeching vocals", which the band completely changed without changing singers. This can no longer be heard on My Soul for His Glory or on the follow-up Nightside Emanations . On The Poisonous Path the band mixes “swirling” tremolo rhythms, reminiscent of the patterns of bands of the second wave, with the intensity of Swedish bands, where these riff arrangements are enhanced by “wild” drumming. The first half of the album consists mainly of chaotic pieces without major deviations, the second half of longer pieces, which are more at a medium tempo with occasional "outbreaks" in "more frenetic aspirations".

The band itself describes their own style as "True Satanic Black Metal". According to singer Hoath, Behexen is a "brotherhood of Satan , not just a band". Hoath told the Iron Fist in 2012 that he was born a descendant of Samael . Occultism is the center of his life, the only reason he is "still there" and "the only reason Behexen exists". He was reborn in 2010 through an interaction with Lilith during a ritual. Accordingly, he expresses contempt for those who use Satanism merely to shock and who, in his opinion, should be "hung on the nearest tree". Correspondingly, he also differentiates Black Metal from this incorrectly assigned “circus clown” like Satyricon . He sacrificed his own blood to design the album Nightside Emanations . Hammer of Hate describes the band as known for their devotion to Satan and his praise. The rituals on the then current album My Soul for His Glory not only reflected violent blasphemy, but also mystical spiritual harmonies and the sacrifice of the soul for Satan's glory. Accordingly, the band's lyrics mostly deal with Satanism, the figure of the devil and praise for him. They also contain a variety of blasphemous statements, such as B. in the song Christ Forever Die on the debut album, where anti-Christian statements such as “Look at the god's bastard son as he is hanging on the cross doing that only thing he can” can be found.
