The Bekelbach is an orographically right tributary of the Dalke in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . It has a length of 6.8 km.

River course

The Bekelbach arises at a height of around 100 meters within the Bekelheide grassland in the southeast of Bielefeld 's Windflöte district . The water flows off in a south-westerly direction and forms the border of the Hasselbachaue nature reserve further south on a 150-meter-long section below the source area . After the Bekelbach has crossed the Gütersloh city limits, it reaches another area designated as a nature reserve , the Großer Wiese, and forms a widely ramified ditch system within this 230 hectare wet meadow complex.

After leaving the protected area, the water flows into the Dalke on the right-hand side just in the area of the town of Verl , at the level of the Ruthmann watermill. The Bekelbach overcomes a height difference of 16 meters along its course, resulting in an average bed gradient of 2.4 ‰.

etymology

Both the Bekelbach and the Bekelheide through which it flows take their name from the Bekel farm , over which the watercourse leads to the Windflöter area. The farmstead was first mentioned in the mid-12th century under the name "Beckel", making it one of the oldest and largest courts of the later church Senne I .
