The Santa Cruz Cemetery

Before the 2015 regional reform, Bemori had an area of ​​0.59 km². Now it is 0.49 km². The Suco is located in the north of the administrative office of Nain Feto. After the independence of East Timor, the Suco Meira was also affiliated to him. To the west, across Av. The grave of Sebastião Gomes

On November 12, 1991, after the funeral of Sebastião Gomes, the Santa Cruz massacre (also known as the Dili massacre ) began in the cemetery of the same name . At least 271 people died and 382 were injured in the attack on demonstrators and the violence that followed immediately by the Indonesian military . 270 people disappeared without a trace. The Santa Cruz massacre was a decisive turning point in the history of East Timor and brought more international attention to the now 15-year conflict. It was the first major demonstration against the Indonesian occupation of the area.

Severe flooding occurred in Dili in March 2020, which also affected Bemori.
