Lahane Oriental is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Nain Feto ( municipality of Dili ) and a district of the state capital Dili .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Lahane Oriental had an area of ​​3.29 km². Now it is 3.96 km², with which Lahane Oriental takes up about two thirds of Nain Feto. The Suco forms the south of East Timor's smallest administrative office in terms of area. To the north are the sucos Santa Cruz and Bemori . After the independence of East Timor, Suco Inur Fuik was also affiliated to him. To the west, Lahane Oriental borders the Vera Cruz administrative office with its sucos Mascarenhas and Lahane Ocidental . The rest of the border is shared by Lahane Oriental with the administrative office of Cristo Rei with the Sucos Culu Hun in the northeast, Becora in the south and Balibar in the south. In the southeast, a tip of the sucos touches the community of Aileu (Suco Talitu , Laulara administrative office ). The Bemori River forms part of the border with Culu Hun . At the northeast corner of Culu Huns, it meets the Benamauc and flows into the Bay of Dili as Mota Claran . The whole system falls dry outside of the rainy season.

The northern part of urban Sucos is more densely populated than the south, which still has open spaces and is already significantly higher with hills. In the northwest are the districts of Quintal Arbiro and Marabia , in the northeast Taibesi ( Taibessi, Taibesse ,) and West Mota Ulun ( Motaulun Barat , East Mota Ulun is in Becora) and in the south Lahane Oriental . In the north is the primary school Escola Aituri Laran , in the south there is a medical station. In 2017 the Amigos de Jesus school opened in Taibesi.

The memorial to commemorate the victims of the Japanese occupation in World War II was erected in Taibesi in 1946. It consists of the coat of arms of Portugal and two crossed rifles. Near the Taibesi market ( Mercado de Taibesi ) is the Pura Girinatha , the only Hindu temple in East Timor. To the west of Taibesi is the Chinese cemetery of Dili . The Palácio de Lahane , the old residence of the Portuguese governor, is also located in Lahane Oriental.

In the Suco there are the 13 Aldeias Alcrin , Becoe , Dembata Bessi , Deposito Penal , Marabia , Metin , Monumento Calma , Rai Mean , Sare , Suhu Rama , Temporal , Tuba Rai and Vale de Lahane .

13,716 inhabitants (2015) live in the Suco, of which 7,149 are men and 6,567 women. The population density is 3,459.3 inhabitants / km². There are 1,988 households in the Suco. Over 93% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. Over 3% speak Mambai , minorities Tetum Terik , Baikeno , Kemak , Makasae or Bunak .

The main Portuguese arsenal was located in Tabesi. When the civil war between FRETILIN and União Democrática Timorense UDT broke out in 1975, FRETILIN fighters under Sergeant Ponciano dos Santos captured large quantities of weapons and ammunition.

On June 10, 1980, FALINTIL units attacked the television station in Marabia, and other strategic locations on the outskirts of the capital Dili. It was the first major attack against the Indonesian occupiers since the resistance movement was almost completely crushed in 1978. In response, the Indonesian military killed over 100 people and tortured or banished members of resistance fighters to the island of Atauro, which was used as a prison island .
