The East Timorese town and Suco Balibar is located south of the state capital Dili , in the administrative office of Cristo Rei in the municipality of Dili .

The place

Balibar is located in the south of the Sucos at an altitude of 642  m . The primary school Escola Primaria 13 Balibar is located here . There is also a pre-school, a pre-secondary school and a medical station.

1708 inhabitants live in Balibar (2015), of which 898 are men and 810 women. The population density is 430.8 inhabitants / km². There are 240 households in the Suco. Over 91% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. Almost 7% speak Mambai , minorities Adabe or Lolein .

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Balibar had an area of ​​3.97 km². Now it is 3.96 km². The Suco Balibar forms an exclave southwest of the remaining administrative office of Cristo Rei. The country road runs along the western and southern borders from Dili to Aileu and on to Maubisse and Ainaro .

In addition to the town of Balibar, the towns of Tancae and Fatu Loda ( Fatuloda ) and Lacoto ( Lakoto ) in the west lie in the south of the Sucos . In addition to the primary school in Balibar, there is a second primary school in the south of Suco.

The four Aldeias Fatu Loda , Lacoto , Lorico and Tancae are located in the Suco .

The private home of the former Prime Minister (2007 to 2015) Xanana Gusmão is in the Suco . It was stormed by rebels on February 11, 2008 when only the Gusmãos family were home. Nobody got hurt.

history

On June 10, 1980, FALINTIL fighters attacked several targets in Dili, including the weapons depot of B Company of Indonesian Battalion 744 in Becora . As a result, residents of the outskirts in Balibar and Ailok were concentrated by the Indonesians in Fatu Loda, where they had to live under strict security conditions until 1986. Several fatalities resulted from these restrictions. If you wanted to leave the zone, you had to report it to Babinsa (the military advisor in the local council). The exit was completely forbidden between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Antonio Pereira was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , Domingos Amaral Verdial won .
