Camea ( Kamea ) is a district of the East Timorese capital Dili and Suco in the administrative office of Cristo Rei ( municipality of Dili ). The Suco is defined as urban.

Surname

The Suco is named after the mountain Foho Camea and the mythical giant snake of the same name, which is said to live in a cave in the mountain.

The Suco is located to the west of the Cristo Rei administrative office. To the east lies the Suco Hera , to the north Meti Aut and to the west Bidau Santana and Becora . In the south Camea borders on the municipality of Aileu with its Suco Talitu ( Laulara administrative office ). The Benamauc River , a source of the Mota Claran, flows through the west of Camea .

After the independence of East Timor, Camea was also affiliated to the Suco Fatuahi . Additional areas were added to it with the territorial reform of 2015, so that the total territory of Sucos grew from 2.31 km² to 9.85 km². In the south of Becora came the areas east of Benamauc with the localities Buburlau , Karomate and Aidac Bihare ( Aidabahare ) to Camea, in the north it was the east of Bidau Santana and the south of Metiaut and in the southeast of Hera the localities of Fatuahi , Susan and Lakeru Laran ( Lekeru Laun ). Before the reform, Camea already included Ailoc Laran ( Ailoklaran , Ailok Laran ) in the west, Lenuc Hun ( Lenuk Hun , Lunukhun ) in the northwest, Bedois ( German  "stinking water" ) in the east and Benamauc in the southwest.

There are four primary schools in Suco: The Escola Primaria No. 7 Camea , the Escola Primaria Katolika Sabraka Laran (Sabracalaran), the Escola Primaria Fatuahi and the Escola Primaria Bedois . There is a pre-school in the parish hall of Bedois. There is also a secondary school in Bedois. Another school is the Escola Aidac Bihare ( Aidak Bihare ). It was destroyed in the riots in East Timor in 2006 and then rebuilt. In Ailoc Laran, the Becora prison is the country's most important penal institution. It was already under Indonesian occupation.

Sights in Suco are the Holy House of Manu-lain (Aldeia Ailoc Laran) and a cave from the Japanese occupation (Aldeia Bedois). In Bedois is the church of Santa Teresinha do Menino Jesus de Bedois . It was built in 1998.

In the Suco there are the 13 Aldeias Aidac Bihare , Ailele Hun , Ailoc Laran , Bedois , Buburlau , Caisabe , Fatuc Francisco , Has Laran , Lases , Lenuc Hun , Namalai , Suco Laran and Terminal .

13,481 people live in Suco (2015), 7,059 of them are men and 6,422 women. The population density is 1,368.5 inhabitants / km². There are 1,920 households in the Suco. Over 94% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. 3% speak Mambai , minorities Makasae , Tetum Terik or Fataluku .

In the elections of 2004/2005 was António Ribero elected Chefe de Suco and in 2009 re-elected. In 2016 , Armenio Aleixo da Silva replaced him.
