Bidau Santana is a district of the East Timorese capital Dili and Suco in the administrative office of Cristo Rei ( municipality of Dili ). The Suco is defined as urban.

Before the 2015 territorial reform, Bidau Santana had an area of ​​3.23 km². Now it is 1.84 km². The Suco is located to the west of the Cristo Rei administrative office, at the east end of the Bay of Dili . To the south are the sucos Culu Hun , Becora and Camea , to the east of the Suco Meti Aut . To the west, beyond the Mota Bidau , lies the administrative office of Nain Feto , to which Bidau Santana belonged until 2004, with its sucos Bidau Lecidere and Acadiru Hun . The river Benamauc forms the border with Becora , which together with the Rio Bemori forms the Mota Claran and flows into the Bay of Dili in the west of the Sucos. The coast forms the district of Santana . Also to the north are Sagrada Familia , Mota Claran ( Mota Klaran ) and Nu Laran . In the center is Masau ( Massau , Massaur ). There are two primary schools in Suco. One of the two is the Escola Primaria No. 2 Bidau Masau . Two Marian grottos with additional additions are striking: the Gruta de Bidau Masau and the Gruta de Bidau Santana . In 2019, the Ponte BJ Habibie bridge was inaugurated and the Jardim BJ Habibie park opened next to it.

In the Suco there are the four Aldeias Bidau Mota Claran ( Mota Klaran ), Manu Mata , Sagrada Familia and Toko Baru .

Residents

The Suco has 6,482 inhabitants (2015), of which 3406 are men and 3076 women. The population density is 3531.4 inhabitants / km². There are 930 households in the Suco. Almost 94% of the population name Tetum Prasa as their mother tongue. About 2% speak Mambai or Makasae , minorities Kairui , Fataluku , Tetum Terik or Baikeno .

history

In the Bidau district, which is now divided into Bidau Santana and Bidau Lecidere, the Bidau ethnic group originally settled . This mixed population of Portuguese and locals from Larantuka ( Flores ), Solor and Timor controlled large parts of West Timor for centuries . They spoke Português de Bidau , a Creole Portuguese, until the 1960s . Over time, they switched more and more to standard Portuguese.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Martinho R. Pereira was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Francisco de A. Freitas . He was followed in 2016 by Luís Ribeiro Soares Pereira.
