Ben Verbong (born July 2, 1949 in Tegelen ) is a Dutch director .

life and career

After studying at the Amsterdam Film Academy, he directed the film The Girl with Red Hair in 1981 . For his 1989 film Lily was here , Eurythmics founder David A. Stewart provided the soundtrack.

Verbong has also been working in Germany since 1997. He directed six German films, including Das Sams . In 1999 he directed the Tatort episode Children of Violence for television for ARD .

In 2000 he directed the Passion Play in his home town of Tegelen , which takes place there every five years. He is married to the choreographer and theater scholar Jacqueline Knoops.
