The capital region of Banaadir (also spelled Benadir ; Arabic بنادر, DMG Banādir ) is one of 18 administrative regions ( gobolka ) of Somalia and is located in the south of the country. Its capital is the state capital Mogadishu .

The region lies on the Indian Ocean . In the past, the neighboring regions of Shabeellaha Dhexe and Shabeellaha Hoose also belonged to Banaadir.

The name of the region is derived from the Benadir coast, which is said to have its name from the Persian bandar for "port".
