The tailed bencomia ( Bencomia caudata ) is a species of plant from the rose family (Rosaceae) endemic to the Canary Islands . The generic name honors Imobac Bencomo, a Guanche king in Tenerife in the 15th century.
features
The tailed Bencomia is a dioecious shrub that reaches heights of 1.5 to 6 meters. The leaves are pinnate. They are heaped towards the ends of the branches. There are 7 to 11 leaflets per leaf, which are short-stalked, densely silky haired, serrate and ovate to a point. The inconspicuous flowers are arranged in dense spikes . The ears are longer than the bracts . The pear-shaped fruits are almost fleshy.
The flowering period extends from February to June. The species is pollinated by the wind.
Occurrence
The species occurs on the Canary Islands Hierro , La Palma , Tenerife and Gran Canaria . Their habitat are shady, rocky locations and barrancos .
