Benjamin Foerster-Baldenius (born April 8, 1968 in Stuttgart ) is a German performing architect from Berlin .

Life

Foerster-Baldenius grew up in Hamburg , studied architecture in Berlin and Copenhagen , founded the Institute for Applied Architecture in Berlin in 1997 and has been a member of the raumlaborberlin family of architects since 1999 , which contributed to the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th Architecture Biennale in Venice were represented.

He has lived and worked in Berlin since 1989 and is the father of two children.

raumlaborberlin

raumlabor berlin is a network collective of eight Berlin architects that has existed since 1999. Project-related teams are supplemented with external partners and specialists depending on the task. The collective works across genres and in an interdisciplinary manner in the areas of architecture, urban planning, art and performance . The main focus of raumlaborberlin is urban transformations and the relationship between public and private space. Artistic and architectural interventions serve as tools for communication and process design at the interface between culture and planning.

Political commitment

Since 2011 he has been the federal treasurer of the alternative mountain party, the "ÜberPartei" , which campaigns for the occupation and temporary use of vacant buildings, as well as the "recapture of public space".

Awards

Together with Manuel Castells, he was the winner of the Erich Schelling Architecture Prize in 2004, although he says he has not built a single house yet. His office, raumlaborberlin , ranks 79th in the top 100 of BauNetz's national architects and offices rankings .
