Benjamin Stein
Benjamin Stein (* 6. June 1970 as Matthias Albrecht in East Berlin ) is a German writer , journalist and publicist .
Career
Benjamin Stein grew up in the eastern part of Berlin. The first chapter of his novel The Dragonfly Wing appeared in the GDR literary magazine Temperamente as early as 1989 . Already at this point in time, Stein published under a pseudonym, and later he also used this name in “all of bourgeois life.” After graduating from high school, he worked as a night porter in a nursing home until the fall of 1989. From 1990 he studied Jewish Studies (at the Free University of Berlin ) and Hebrew Studies (at the Humboldt University in Berlin ). In 1993 he took part in the competition for the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize .
His first novel Das Alphabet des Juda Liva was published in 1995. This was followed by journalistic work as an editor and correspondent for various German and American computer magazines. Since 1998 he has been working as a freelance consultant in the field of information technology. He is married with four children and lives in Munich. His poetry and prose has received several awards, including a. 1996 with the sponsorship award of the cultural group at the Federal Association of German Industry . Stein was co-editor of the literary magazine spa_'tien, which appeared from 2006 to 2008, and has been the owner of Edition Neue Moderne since 2008. He runs the literary weblog Turmsegler (named after a poem by René Char ). His novel The Canvas , published in 2010, was awarded the Tukan Prize in the same year . He also received the Bavarian Art Prize for this in 2010 . His third novel, Replay , was published in January 2012 .
