history
Benken emerged as a street village and was first mentioned in a document in 1375. A late Romanesque stone church already existed at this time . For a few centuries the place was hardly inhabited and appeared in the 15th century as a “desert village to Bencken”. Only two farmers and their families have survived from 1542; In 1550 there were four of them. In 1555 a manor was established in the district, which, however, only developed slowly. In the 18th and 19th centuries there was a miller, a blacksmith, a linen weaver and a Kruger . Before the outbreak of the Second World War there were 26 farmers. In the time of the GDR they formed an LPG . In addition, there were new farmers who built five houses with outbuildings on Schlamauer Weg. In 2006 the place was connected to a new water supply.
