The Bentgraben , which is called Eselsbach in the upper reaches of Leopoldshöhe, is a 4.2 km long orographically left tributary of the Werre in the northeast of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia .

It is not to be confused with the stream, also called Eselsbach, in the south of the municipality of Leopoldshöhe, which mainly flows through Asemissen and flows into the winddle at Greste -Dorf .

course

According to the information from the State Surveying Office of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Bentgraben rises as Eselsbach in Leopoldshöhe at an altitude of 120  m above sea level. NN directly on the K 1. From its source, the stream flows north-east to Krentruper Hagen and feeds two small ponds . After the Bentgraben (Eselsbach) has flowed through Krentruper Hagen, a nameless tributary from the Hakenheide area flows to the right. Subsequently, the creek, which on some maps is initially referred to as Pottenhauser Bach and later also called “Bentgraben”, flows in from the right. From there on, the stream, known exclusively as “Bentgraben”, turns from this point to the north and finally flows after a stretch of 4.2 km at an altitude of only 83  m above sea level. NN east of Heipke on the edge of the Heipker See nature reserve at KM 36.5 on the left into the Werre.

The brook drains a small part of the Ravensberg hill country .

Tributary

The Bentgraben (Eselsbach) has the above-mentioned tributary, which rises half a kilometer southeast and initially flows in a northeastern direction through Wedderwillen, Steinhagen and Pottenhausen , but then turns to the north and then at KM 1.6 into the Bentgraben (Eselsbach ) opens.

According to the state survey office of North Rhine-Westphalia, this body of water has a length of 3.9 km and is nameless according to the water bodies. In the topographical map DTK 10 this tributary, which is nameless in the water body index, is however referred to in the upper reaches as “Pottenhauser Bach” and later as “Bentgraben”. It has covered a longer stretch of flow to the confluence with the Bentgraben (Eselsbach) than the Bentgraben (Eselsbach) itself.
