Bentonville is a city in Benton County in the US state of Arkansas with 35,301 inhabitants (as of 2010 ) and the seat of the county administration ( county seat ). The urban area has a size of 55.1 km². Between 2000 and 2010 alone, the population increased from 19,730 to 35,301, which corresponds to an increase of 78.9 percent.
history
The area in which Bentonville is located today was formerly inhabited by Osage Indians. Bentonville was named after Thomas Hart Benton , a Senator from Missouri .
Arkansas became independent in 1834. Bentonville was conquered several times during the American Civil War . The Battle of Pea Ridge took place nearby in 1862 . Bentonville was the last station of Sherman's campaign of conquest in 1864.

museum
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art , designed by architect Moshe Safdie , opened in 2011. The museum's collection was brought together by the heiress of the Wal-Mart concern , Alice Walton , and is constantly being expanded with her funds.
economy
Bentonville is home to the Wal-Mart retail group , the world's top-selling company with annual sales of more than $ 500.3 billion in fiscal 2017. The massive population increase is likely due in part to this. Some tourists also come to Bentonville to visit the first store that Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton opened in 1950.
