Beresford is a place in Union County in the US state of South Dakota . It has 2006 inhabitants (as of 2000) on an area of 4.6 km².
Beresford is on the border between Lincoln County and Union County. The border runs along Cedar Street from Beresford. About two-thirds of the area (including City Hall) is in Union County.
The city was initially called Paris, Dakota Territory . It was renamed after Lord Charles Beresford , a British admiral and MP, and was officially founded on July 12, 1884.
