description
Vegetative characteristics
The pasque flower is a hairy, perennial , herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 20 centimeters. The stem is erect.
The basal leaves only appear during the flowering period and die off in autumn. They are long-stalked, pinnate and have pinnate sections and narrow, pointed, hairy tips; these are narrower than Haller's pasque flower ( Pulsatilla halleri ). The leaves do not have a silky sheen.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from April to May. The bracts have overgrown, deeply slit, linear tips and are very hairy.
The hermaphrodite flowers are terminal and nodding. The usually six bracts are black to dark blue-violet in color, 20 to 30 millimeters long and shaggy on the outside.
The fruits are wire-haired. The styles are up to 30 millimeters long and hairy protruding.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.
Occurrence
The distribution area extends over the Alps (Southwest Alps, Wallis, Vintschgau and Southern Alps), the Carpathians and the Balkans. Pulsatilla montana occurs from the valley to altitudes of 2000 meters on calcareous soils in very dry locations.
Subspecies
The first description was made in 1826 under the name ( Basionym ) Anemone montana by David Heinrich Hoppe in Jacob Sturm : Germany's flora in illustrations according to nature with descriptions ... Abth. 1, 12, issue 46, plate 4. The new combination to Pulsatilla montana (Hoppe) Rchb. was published in 1832 by Ludwig Reichenbach in Flora Germanica Excursoria , page 733.
Of Pulsatilla montana there are about six subspecies:
- Pulsatilla montana subsp. balkana (Velen.) Zamels & Paegle (Syn .: Pulsatilla balkana Velen. , Pulsatilla montana subsp. australis (Heuff.) Zämelis & Paegle ): It occurs in Bulgaria , Romania and the former Yugoslavia .
- Pulsatilla montana subsp. bulgarica Rummelspacher , occurs in Bulgaria and in the former Yugoslavia.
- Pulsatilla montana (Hoppe) Rchb. subsp. montana : It occurs in France , Switzerland , Italy and the former Yugoslavia.
- Pulsatilla montana subsp. jankae (FWSchultz) Zamels & Paegle (Syn .: Pulsatilla dacica (Rummelsp.) Tzvelev , Pulsatilla montana subsp. dacica Rummelsp. ): It occurs only in Romania and in the former Yugoslavia.
- Pulsatilla montana subsp. olympica Voliotis : This endemic occurs in Greece only on Olympus . It is perhaps a synonym of Pulsatilla halleri subsp. rhodopaea (Stoj. & Stef.) K. Krause .
- Pulsatilla montana subsp. slaviankae Rummelspacher (Syn .: Pulsatilla slaviankae (Rummelsp.) Jordanov & Kožuharov , Pulsatilla velezensis subsp. slaviankae W.Zimm. ): It occurs in Greece , Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia.
