action

Tom's great passion is music. At night, Tom and Malte play DJs in Berlin clubs - while they secretly hope to be discovered by a major label. During the day, the two hire themselves out as temporary waiters for a catering service. Tom secretly applies to music colleges because he can imagine something different from music than the club scene . But he doesn't tell his friends how much he loves operas , for example .

One day, political student Mavie, Mitsch's sister, moves into the storage room of the flat share to do an internship with a parliamentary group. The siblings have a very tense relationship with each other, which is also due to the fact that Mitsch has long neglected his medical studies and is now de-registered. But his parents don't know about it, because Mitsch doesn't want to do without the monthly check.

Tom feels drawn to Mavie without realizing that she is reciprocating his sympathy. At the same time, Malte flirts with her. The integrating force in the clique is Margarete, whom Tom previously wanted to couple with the lonely Verena. Mavie is interested in Tom's own compositions and even accompanies him to the opera - the two spend many hours together, during which he shows their "his" Berlin.

Mitsch and Mavie talk to each other at a party and can settle the sibling dispute. But there is tension between the two musicians Malte and Tom: An audition at a record label sobered Tom, while Malte was more enthusiastic. Then it turns out that Malte has applied (following Tom's example) to the Berlin Conservatory and gets a place to study, while Tom is rejected again.

Mavie tries to comfort the depressed Tom, but the two are interrupted before they can get closer. When she then agrees to help her internship colleague Ralph in a crisis situation and leaves Tom alone, he is devastated. Drunk he is turned away at the entrance to his favorite club. He then provokes a few passers-by who beat him up. In his desperation, Tom seeks consolation from Mitsch's girlfriend Angie - and is surprised by Mavie in bed with her. When Mavie ends her stay in Berlin prematurely, Tom doesn't want to know anything about his previous life either and wants to return to his parents. The film ends with the two of them meeting by chance at Berlin Central Station , staying in Berlin and finding each other.

Reviews

“Debut film with pretty ideas and beautiful picture ideas, which deals with many facets of a post-pubertal coming of age . Although he doesn't take it very seriously with historical and other references, he convinces with the excellent performance of the actors. "

"And now" Berlin am Meer "actually wants to be a love story too ... To put it badly, the film is only" trendy "and is about spoiled citizens' boys and daughters who simply don't want to grow up. That is neither pleasant nor really interesting. "

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
