Berlin Symphony Orchestra

The Berliner Symphonisches Orchester was a symphony orchestra in Berlin (West). It existed from 1949 to 1967.

The orchestra should not be confused with the former Berlin Symphony Orchestra (today: Konzerthausorchester Berlin ) from the eastern part of the city, which at that time still belonged to the GDR.

history

The Berliner Symphonisches Orchester was founded in the spring of 1949 in Berlin (West), the name was approved in writing by the then Magistrate of Berlin (the predecessor of the Senate of Berlin). Carl A. Bünte was chief conductor from the beginning to 1967. In 1962 the legal form was converted into a "non-profit GmbH" with the addition "particularly worthy of support".

Performances of the orchestra

The orchestra was in uninterrupted activity until August 31, 1967 (including with its own subscriber base) inside and outside Berlin with up to 60 concerts per year. As early as 1951, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra was engaged for six concerts in the Titaniapalast, four of them under the direction of Carl A. Bünte, on behalf of the Berlin Philharmonic, who were on a concert tour to Egypt under Wilhelm Furtwängler. On 15./16. In September 1963, the orchestra premiered Tchaikovsky's Manfred Symphony under the direction of Bünte in the concert hall of the University of Music.

The orchestra made frequent guest appearances in the Hamburger Musikhalle , as well as - sometimes several times - u. a. in Oldenburg , Hanover , Hildesheim , Cologne , Düsseldorf , Speyer , Nuremberg , Stuttgart , Bremen and Munich . The orchestra was also signed for the Berliner Festwochen . Bünte received the music prize of the German Critics Association 1961/62 a. a. for "his work with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra". The name Berliner Symphonisches Orchester has been protected in a GmbH since 1967 , which is currently being liquidated. The name Berliner Symphonisches Orchester was notarized on January 7, 2011 and transferred to a concert management.

Development after 1966

In 1966 the Berliner Orchestervereinigung 1966 eV was founded with the aim of uniting the Berlin Symphony Orchestra with the former German Symphony Orchestra ; this began its concert activities as the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (SOB) on September 1, 1967. Carl A. Bünte was elected chief conductor, who ended his activity on August 31, 1973 at his own request to pursue his career in Japan , South America and other European countries continue. The orchestra (SOB) gave around 60 concerts per year inside and outside Berlin and has been called the Berliner Symphoniker since the beginning of 1990 . Successors to Bünte were u. a. Theodore Bloomfield , Daniel Nazareth and Alun Francis .
