Carl August Bünte (born September 23, 1925 in Berlin ; † June 6, 2018 ) was a German conductor and university professor .

Carl August Bünte is a son of Charles Bünte . From 1946 to 1949 he studied conducting in the master class with Sergiu Celibidache at the International Music Institute Berlin (a predecessor of the Berlin University of the Arts ) and composition with Paul Höffer. Bünte was chief conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra from 1949 to 1967 - as long as this symphony orchestra existed in Berlin (West). This orchestra performed up to 60 concerts a year inside and outside Berlin and made frequent guest appearances in the Hamburger Musikhalle as well as in Oldenburg , Hanover , Hildesheim , Cologne , Düsseldorf , Speyer , Nuremberg , Stuttgart , Bremen and Munich . With the orchestra he was also signed for the Berliner Festwochen .

From the very beginning, Bünte was also chief conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (SOB), which was founded in 1967 . It emerged from the merger of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra with what was then the German Symphony Orchestra . In 1973 Bünte ended his activity there at his own request in order to continue his career in other European countries and in Japan and South America .

After 1978, Bünte worked for several years as a visiting professor for conducting and orchestral conducting at the State University of Fine Arts and Music Tokyo / Japan. Bünte conducted as a guest in Japan (14 orchestras), England, Sweden, Denmark, France, Austria, Greece, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. In the Federal Republic of Germany, Bünte conducted 19 orchestras as guest, including the Berlin and Munich Philharmonics. From 1987 to 1999 Bünte was a professor for conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts . Bünte was from 1957 to 1965 with the actress Brigitte Grothum and in third marriage with Heidi, geb. Carl August Bünte is now a conductor who is firmly anchored in Berlin's musical life. ”In 1982 Bünte was appointed honorary conductor of the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra Osaka / Japan and in 1982 honorary professor of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. Appointment as honorary professor at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin (University of the Arts) on January 12, 1998.
