Bernard Genoud
Bernard Genoud (born February 22, 1942 in Châtel-Saint-Denis , Canton of Friborg ; † September 21, 2010 in Friborg ) was a Swiss theologian and Roman Catholic bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Friborg .
Life
Bernard Genoud entered the diocesan seminary in Freiburg after graduating from the Collège de Saint-Maurice in 1963 and studied theology and philosophy with Charles Journet , Pierre Mamie and Gabriel Bullet, among others . At the same time, he studied flute at the Lausanne Conservatory and taught at the teachers' seminar. He was ordained a priest on June 22, 1968 . From 1968 to 1971 he was vicar in Montreux and taught at the Freiburg College of St. Michael . From 1976 he established a philosophy class at the Collège du Sud in Bulle and taught philosophy from 1976 to 1994. Since 1975 he has also taught philosophy at the École de la Foi in Freiburg. After serving as a pastor in Lessoc from 1981 to 1994, Genoud Regens became a seminary and professor of philosophy in the Givisiez seminary . In addition to a teaching position at the theological faculty of the University of Friborg, he was head of training for the permanent diaconate and president of the catechetical commission for the orientation level of the canton of Friborg.
Pope John Paul II appointed Bernard Genoud bishop of the diocese of Lausanne, Geneva and Friborg in 1999. The episcopal ordination donated him on 24 May 1999 in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas his predecessor, Amédée grave OSB , Bishop of Chur and president of the Swiss Bishops' Conference ; Co-consecrators were the Freiburg auxiliary bishops Pierre Bürcher and Pierre Farine . In 2003 he was invested in the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
As early as 2008, Genoud campaigned for an expert commission on pedophilia and abuse cases in the church. He called for stricter reporting requirements and set up a telephone hotline.
Bernard Genoud died in the episcopate of complications from cancer.
