Bernard Unabali

Bernard Unabali (born May 5, 1957 in Bolioko Sovelle, Bougainville Island , Solomon Islands , † August 10, 2019 in Manila , Philippines ) was a Papuan-New Guinean clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Bougainville .

Life

Bernard Unabali occurred in 1977 in the seminary of St. Peter Chanel in Ulapia and studied philosophy and theology at the Seminary of Bomana in Port Moresby . The Bishop of Bougainville, Gregory Singkai , ordained him priestly on December 14, 1985 in Sovele . He graduated in missiology from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . In addition to pastoral work, he was a trainer and taught missiology at the seminary. He was appointed Vicar General of Bougainville and held other offices in the diocesan administration.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on June 1, 2006 titular bishop of Cuicul and auxiliary bishop in Bougainville. The bishop of Bougainville, Henk Kronenberg SM , donated him episcopal consecration on September 6th of the same year; Co- consecrators were Alphonse Liguori Chaupa , Bishop of Kimbe , and John Ribat MSC , Bishop of Bereina .

On December 15, 2009 Benedict XVI appointed him. to the Bishop of Bougainville.

He died while hospitalized in Manila, Philippines.
