Bernd Albani

Bernd Albani (born February 9, 1944 in Dresden ) is a German Protestant pastor . He was a representative of the church peace and environmental movement in the GDR .

Life

Albani completed vocational training as a physics laboratory assistant at the Central Institute for Nuclear Research of the Academy of Sciences in Rossendorf and after graduating from evening school from 1963 to 1968 studied physics at the Technical University of Dresden . He then became an aspirant at the Lomonossow University in Moscow and from 1970 to 1976 research assistant at the University of Transport in Dresden. In 1973 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the theory of solid-state magnetism .

From 1976 to 1980 he studied theology at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig . In 1978 he was imprisoned for six weeks after a one-man “Freedom for Bahro ” demonstration . 1980 to 1982 he was in the vicariate and seminary in Leipzig and until 1989 pastor in Frauenstein .

In 1983 he and others founded the church working group "Peace / Environment in the Frauenstein / Freiberg region ". From 1984 to 1989 he was a member of the Saxon regional synod and from 1987 to 1989 a representative of the Saxon grassroots group in the network of church peace, environmental and human rights groups “Concrete for Peace”.

In 1989 he became pastor of the Gethsemane congregation in Berlin and took part in the protest actions in the Gethsemane church on the 40th anniversary of the GDR. From December 1989 to 1991 he was the spokesman for the New Forum Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg and was involved, among other things, in dealing with the Stasi entanglements within the churches.

In June 1995, after separating from his wife, he was given leave of absence from pastoral work. From 1998 to 2008 he worked as a pastor at the Protestant parish Glienicke / Nordbahn in the state of Brandenburg . He is retired and lives in Berlin-Pankow .
