politics

In the course of the political change in the GDR, Brösdorf founded a group in Mühlhausen in October 1989 called Change Now . On December 5, 1989, the group organized the founding meeting of the Mühlhausen local and district association of the Social Democratic Party in the GDR (SDP). On December 15, 1989, he took part in the meeting of the Thuringian SDP representatives in the Harrasmühle near Pößneck , where it was decided to found a regional association within the historical borders of Thuringia. At the founding party convention of the SPD Thuringia on January 27, 1990 in Gotha , Brösdorf was elected as a representative of the Erfurt district to one of three deputy state chairmen.

In the parliamentary elections in 1990 , he was in the constituency 04 (Erfurt) in the People's Parliament voted, of which he was on 18 March 1990 to 2 October 1990th Because of the unexpectedly poor performance of the SPD, the SPD state chairman Wilfried Machalett resigned after the election, so that from March 1990 Brösdorf initially took over the management of the state association. At the second state party congress on May 26, 1990 in Bad Frankenhausen, he was elected state chairman.

On August 16, 1990, Brösdorf resigned from the SPD state chairmanship after accusations of cooperation with the Ministry for State Security (MfS) had become loud. During his military service with the NVA , the MfS asked him for information about an acquaintance who had attempted to escape from the GDR . Thereupon Brösdorf approached the acquaintance concerned and they wrote the reports for the MfS together. After some time, the MfS stopped contact with Brösdorf because of a lack of knowledge and classified him as an "unfit person".

Brösdorf is still active in the SPD. In 2015 he was treasurer of the SPD district association Unstrut-Hainich district .
