Bernd Fix
Bernd Fix (born March 19, 1962 in Wittingen ) is a German hacker and computer security expert .
After graduating from high school in Hankensbüttel in 1981, Bernd Fix studied astrophysics and philosophy at the Universities of Göttingen and Heidelberg and graduated in 1989 with a degree in physics with a thesis in theoretical astrophysics.
Fix joined the Chaos Computer Club in Hamburg in 1986 and began working on computer security, especially in the area of computer viruses . At the end of 1986 a virus (rush hour) written by Fix was published in Datenschleuder # 17; further results of his work flowed, among other things, into The great computer virus book by Ralf Burger .
In mid-1987 he developed a method to neutralize the Vienna virus , creating the world's first documented antivirus software.
Fix is also the author of various research viruses, including the VP370 for IBM mainframes . The VP370 source code was allegedly stolen by the Federal Intelligence Service in 1988 and used as part of the “ Rahab Project ” for attacks on Eastern Bloc and NATO mainframes.
From 1987 to 1989 Bernd Fix was one of the speakers for the Chaos Computer Club and co-author of the Hackerbibel 2 . After the death of his friend Wau Holland , who was one of the founders of the Chaos Computer Club, in 2001, Fix helped set up the Wau Holland Foundation and has served as a member of the foundation's board ever since.
From 1998 to 2013 Bernd Fix lived and worked in Switzerland ; he currently lives in Berlin .
