Bernd Meyer (born May 18, 1946 in Bremen ) is a former German politician ( SPD ).

biography

education and profession

After graduating from high school, Meyer initially worked as a police officer in 1965/66. He then completed a university degree at the University of Education in Bremen . From 1969 to 1971 he worked as a teacher in the Bremen school and then until 1979 in the Lower Saxony school service. From 1991 to 2013 he was the association director of the Lower Saxony- Bremen Housing Association. In 1999/2000 he was also director of the Rhineland - Westphalia housing association .

politics

Meyer was a member of the Bremen citizenship for the SPD from 1971 to 1979 and from 1989 to 1989 . On November 7, 1979, he was appointed building senator to the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen led by Mayor Hans Koschnick , was also a member of the follow-up government led by Mayor Klaus Wedemeier , and on October 15, 1987, he moved to the head of the interior department. After several police errors in the Gladbeck hostage drama , he took over responsibility and resigned from the office of Interior Senator on November 20, 1988.
