Bernd Otto Wahler (born May 24, 1958 in Schnait ) is a German manager and was President of VfB Stuttgart from July 2013 to May 2016 .

Life

Bernd Wahler played in his youth as an attacking midfielder at TSV Schnait before he moved to VfB Stuttgart's C-youth team. After he failed to prevail against Hansi Müller among others at VfB up to the B-Jugend , he went to VfR Waiblingen. Born in Schnait in the Remstal valley , he studied biology and sports science at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen from 1978 to 1984 as a teacher; This was followed by an MBA course specializing in international marketing at Reutlingen University .

In 1987 Wahler joined the sporting goods manufacturer adidas . On July 2, 2013, the supervisory board of the Bundesliga soccer club VfB Stuttgart named Wahler as the club's presidential candidate. On July 22, 2013, the general assembly elected him with 97.4% of the votes as the successor to Gerd Mäuser , who announced his resignation in April. On September 2, 2013, Bernd Wahler took up his post as full-time President of VfB Stuttgart.

One day after VfB Stuttgart's relegation in the 2015/16 season , Bernd Wahler resigned as club president on May 15, 2016 with immediate effect.
