Life

Wilhelmi studied physics at the University of Jena. After receiving his doctorate in 1966 and his habilitation in 1972, he was professor of applied physics at this university from 1973 to 1989 . From 1983 to 1987 he was rector of the University of Jena and from 1989 to 1991 director of the Central Institute for Optics and Spectroscopy of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . From 1992 he was a project manager at Jenoptik .

Wilhelmi published numerous works in the fields of quantum electronics , nonlinear optics and ultra-short time spectroscopy , including widespread monographs and textbooks. He is particularly interested in the industrial application of non-linear optics and lasers .

In 1985 he became a corresponding and in 1988 a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR. He has been a member of the Leopoldina since 1987 . He was a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences from 1988 and a corresponding member from 1989 to 1994.
