Bernhard Nathanael Gottlob Schreger

Bernhard Nathanael Gottlob Schreger (born June 6, 1766 in Zeitz , † October 8, 1825 in Erlangen ) was a German doctor, surgeon and university professor.

Live and act

1784 Schreger went to study medicine to Leipzig , where in 1786 he the baccalaureate got medicine. In 1790 he passed the Magister and in 1791 received the Magister legens, that is, the permission to hold lectures. In his lectures he mainly dealt with the field of physiology and forensic medicine . In 1791 he earned his doctorate med. et. chir., and in 1793 he accepted a call as a full professor of anatomy , surgery and obstetrics at the University of Altdorf , where he made a name for himself not only as an academic teacher but also as a doctor. In 1797 he was appointed to the University of Erlangen as the fifth full professorship in medicine, particularly surgery . He was followed by Michael Jäger .

Schreger wrote numerous basic works of medicine in his time.

Honors

From 1812 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . In 1817 he was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina and in 1823 a foreign member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
