Bernhard Wöstheinrich

Bernhard Wöstheinrich (born June 28, 1968 in Herzebrock , Gütersloh district ) is a German painter and multimedia artist , as well as a composer and musician . As such, he deals with electronic and electro-acoustic music. Wöstheinrich is considered to be the innovator of the Berlin school with means of minimal music and, since the release of his solo album " Elsewhere " (2018), also means of neo-classical music .

Together with Markus Reuter , he sells the musical instrument " Touch Guitars® ". From 2011 on he co-organized the “Gütersloher Polyphonie”, a forum for experimental, improvised and informal music. Since 2017 he has curated the irregular series “Kreuzberger Polyphonie”. His “Materiaal Series”, in which more than a dozen productions from live concerts are available for free download (name-your-price), offers an exciting insight into his artistic work .

Education and professional activities

After completing his apprenticeship as a carpenter and attaining the technical college entrance qualification , he studied visual communication in Bielefeld, where he successfully completed his diploma thesis on the subject of "visualization of sound and music". The diploma designer is now CEO of iapetus media consulting and media Vertriebs-GmbH and the Reuter and Wöstheinrich GbR media production , both based in Berlin .

Composer and musician

He gained his first experience as a musician from 1992 with the group Subsonic Experience in the Bielefeld area . a. as opening act for Embryo and at various festivals. Sustained success began in 1996 after he founded the group centrozoon together with Reuter and has so far released 39 albums (as of the end of 2018). The pseudonym The Redundant Rocker , under which he produced his solo and project albums, comes from this connection . Wöstheinrich has been a guest at national and international festivals such as the “Awakenings Festival” for electronic music in Burton on Trent, Great Britain, or the “Equinoxygen Festival”, Hackensack, USA; also participated in the “Urban Solar Audio Plant”, Berlin (2014), the “Diagonale” - Festival for New Music, Bielefeld (2014), or various Y2K live looping festivals (2013, 2016, 2018). A special feature of his musical career are the numerous collaborations with artists in the international arena such as Ian Boddy, Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock , Conrad Schnitzler , Tim Motzer, David Rothenberg , Willem Schulz and Erik Wøllo .

Painter and multimedia artist

His path as a painter and multimedia artist is characterized by many exhibitions and performances, including a. at the Visual Arts Day in Helsinki , the Ars Electronica in Linz and in the Sound Museum Kassel (KLAK). Wöstheinrich was involved in "Klangbild" in the E-Werk Freiburg (2013) with Bernd Thiele, performed electroacoustic performances with and in a historical gasometer (2006, 2012) and was artist in residence in Bromölla (2016) and in Ljusne (2015) , Sweden. “The Moment of Movement”, a cooperation with the experimental filmmaker Telemach Wiesinger, was created in 2008, another, “Landed”, in 2005.
