Berton Haines (born September 25, 1980 in Saskatoon , Saskatchewan ) is a New Zealand - Canadian ice hockey player who plays for Southern Stampede in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League .

Career

Berton Haines has been a member of the Southern Stampede team in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League since the beginning of his career as an ice hockey player . With this team from Queenstown , whose team captain he has been since 2014, he became New Zealand champions in 2005, 2006, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and runner-up in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

International

For New Zealand , Haines took part in the Division II World Championships in 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 . He has been the captain of his team since 2012 . In 2013 he was named the best defender and the best player of his team at the Group B tournament of Division II. But even his strong defensive performance could not prevent the New Zealanders from narrowly missing out on promotion to the A group of Division II with a narrow 2-3 defeat against Israel .
