Biagio Conte (born April 7, 1968 in Palermo ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

In 1991 Biagio Conte started at the road world championships and finished 53rd in the road race of the amateurs , and he won a stage of the International Peace Drive . In 1996 he got his first contract with Scrigno-Gaerne . In 1999 he drove for Liquigas and was part of the sprinter train for Mario Cipollini . After a season he changed teams again to get the chance for his own victories.

His greatest successes were victories in two stages of the Vuelta a España in 1996 and in one stage of the Giro d'Italia in 2000 . At the Vuelta, he won the first stage and then wore the overall leader's maillot amarillo for two days . In addition, he won several top-class one-day races. In 2001 he won a stage from Tirreno-Adriatico and two stages of the Regio Tour .

Professional

From 2010 Conte worked as the manager of the Liquigas team , which was named Cannondale from 2013 and ended its engagement in 2014. Since then he has been in charge of the Italian junior team Team Work Service Romagnano .
