Bifenox is an active ingredient for crop protection and a chemical compound from the group of diphenyl ether herbicides and dichlorophenoxybenzoic acid derivatives .

properties

Bifenox is a pale yellow, water-insoluble solid.

use

Bifenox is used as an active ingredient in crop protection products. Like the related fluorodifene , oxyfluorfen and chlomethoxyfen , diphenyl ether herbicide is classified as a contact herbicide. Bifenox is a protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitor and acts on the young parts of the shoot, leaves and partly on the roots of broad-leaved weeds and grasses. The released peroxides destroy the cell membranes of the weed plants and lead to the death of the tissue. Bifenox also has an inhibitory effect on photosynthesis. The effect is enhanced by high light intensity and metabolic activity.

In many EU countries, including Germany and Austria, pesticides containing bifenox are approved for use against weeds in the cultivation of grain and rapeseed. There are no pesticides with this active ingredient on the market in Switzerland.
