BildungsCent eV is a non-profit association based in Berlin . The aim of the association is the sustainable promotion of the teaching and learning culture in Germany . The educational offers of the association focus on the participation and development of potential of the students. Supporters of the work of the association are partners from business, politics and civil society .

history

The association was founded in 2003 on the initiative of what was then Herlitz PBS AG. The educational offers for all types of schools should integrate socio-politically important topics into everyday school life in an action and experience-oriented manner. BildungsCent sees itself as an initiator and process companion for the promotion of a school-specific and participatory implementation of various programs. The SchulCoach concept was initially developed according to these principles. The school coaches were qualified specialists who worked with schools for a certain period of time. Together with school staff, pupils, parents or other relevant groups, they discussed the individual needs of the schools and developed corresponding concepts on various topics for the school. The SchulCoach concept was used until 2011. The topics of the first BildungsCent eV programs were nutrition and exercise, management , organizational and quality development , film and media skills , career orientation , participation structures for children, young people and parents, violence prevention , climate change and climate protection .

With the climate protection program Aktion Klima! Between 2008 and 2012 the association gained greater prominence and increased its reach. More than 3,000 schools across Germany took part in the program and received a climate box with measuring devices and manuals. Thanks to the personal handover of the material boxes to schools by Federal Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen and 170 members of the Bundestag , the Climate! media attention. Together with the program partner, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety , two environmental education conferences with experts, teachers and students were held in Berlin.

Between 2003 and 2017, the association implemented 23 programs nationwide.

Surname

The name BildungsCent goes back to the time it was founded. The original idea was that for every Herlitz brand school product sold, one cent should be donated to the organization. According to the motto “One cent that goes to school”, long-term support for the association should be built up. However, this did not prevail, but the name of the initiative was retained.

Working method

The association sees its mission in the inspiration of “schools through diverse impulses, future-oriented programs and networking with partners outside of school”. The association regards schools as crucial places of social transformation towards more sustainability in the sense of the 17 goals for sustainable development of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations . The participation of children and young people in shaping society , the development of potential and appreciation are the goals of the educational offers. The offers are optimized through constant monitoring and external evaluations. Since September 1, 2013, the association has been disclosing information about its activities in accordance with the requirements of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .
