Bill Moring

Bill Moring (* 1958 in Fort Wayne , Indiana ) is an American jazz - bassist and music teacher.

Bill Moring grew up in Fort Wayne and attended Indiana State University for a year ; then he played with local bands in the Indianapolis and Cincinnati area , u. a. with Steve Allee, Claude Sifferlen and John Von Ohlen as well as guest artists such as Dizzy Gillespie and Slide Hampton . After moving to New York in 1984, Moring was a member of the Mel Lewis and Woody Herman orchestras (1985). With a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts , he studied with Rufus Reid ; In 1987 he went on tour with the Count Basie Orchestra . He then played in the Toshiko Akiyoshi / Lew Tabackin Orchestra, the Village Vanguard Orchestra and otherwise worked as a freelance bass player a. a. with Junior Cook , Clark Terry , Frank Foster , Al Cohn , Mel Tormé , Roland Hanna , Joe Williams and Diane Schuur . He has also worked on recordings for Steve Allee, Lionel Hampton , John Hart , Royce Campbell , Dave Stryker and Steve Slagle ( Our Sound ! , 1995). He recorded three albums with his own formations.

Moring currently works as a music teacher at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey ; He has also worked at Rutgers University , New School, Jersey City State University and held numerous workshops.
