William Percey "Bill" Wennington (born April 26, 1963 in Montréal ) is a retired Canadian basketball player .

Life

Wennington played from 1981 to 1985 at St. John's University in New York State . He wore the colors of the university team in 124 games and scored an average of 8.2 points per game. In the 1984/85 season he achieved his best value (12.5 points / game). With a field throw rate of 57.9 percent, the 2.13 meter tall indoor player set a new record for St. John's University, which was broken by Walter Berry a year later . Chris Mullin was one of his teammates at St. John's .

The Dallas Mavericks  secured the rights to the Canadian in the first selection round in June 1985 in the NBA draft process in 16th place. Wennington played for the Texans from 1985 to 1990, the best statistical values ​​he achieved during this time during the game year 1988/89 (4.6 points and 4.4 rebounds / game). In the 1990/91 season he increased his score in the colors of the Sacramento Kings to 5.7 per encounter. The Canadian decided to leave the NBA and accepted an offer from Italian first division club Knorr Bologna , for whom he played from 1991 to 1993. The Canadian was a member of the Bulls until 1999 and was mostly used as a substitute in the center position. In 367 NBA games for Chicago he came to averages of 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per encounter. In the 1999/2000 season he played seven more games for the Sacramento Kings.

National team

With the Canadian national team he took part in the 1982 World Cup and was the fourth best scorer in the troupe with 9.3 points per game. In 1983 he won with Canada Student Selection gold at the Universiade in Edmonton . The final victory over the neighboring country USA to Charles Barkley and Karl Malone was considered a big surprise. He was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 1984 , Wennington scored an average of 7 points per tournament use during the Games in Los Angeles and came fourth with Canada.

After the career

Wennington worked as a radio commentator and accompanied the games of the Chicago Bulls in this activity. In 2005 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the Canadian Basketball Federation.
