Birgit Stephan

Birgit Stephan (née Weinhold ; born September 27, 1964 in Gera ) is a former German marathon runner who started for the GDR .

In 1984 she won the Karl-Marx-Stadt marathon and came third in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon . In 1985 she came 19th in the IAAF World Cup marathon and won bronze in the team classification together with Katrin Dörre (first) and Gabriele Martins (22nd). As the overall winner of the Leipzig Marathon , she became the GDR marathon champion . At the European Cup marathon in Rome, she completed a podium of GDR runners as third (first was Dörre, second Martins), and in Tokyo she came second.

After their marriage, she won the Budapest marathon in autumn 1987 . In 1988 she finished third in the Nagoya Marathon . At the European Cup marathon she came in 34th place and won bronze in the team classification together with Katrin Dörre (first), Annette Fincke (ninth) and Jeannette Hain (tenth).

In 1990 she finished fifth in the Osaka Women's Marathon , won the Berlin Half Marathon and finished ninth in the Berlin Marathon .

Birgit Stephan started for SC Motor Jena .
