The Diocese of Bom Jesus do Gurguéia ( Latin Dioecesis bonuses Jesus a Gurgueia , Portuguese Diocese de Bom Jesus do Gurguéia ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Bom Jesus in the state of Piauí .

history

The diocese Bom Jesus do Gurguéia was founded on June 18, 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. from territory ceded by the diocese of Piauí built as a territorial prelature Bom Jesus do Piauí and subordinated to the archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On December 2, 1921, the territorial prelature Bom Jesus do Piauí was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Luís do Maranhão as a suffragan. The territorial prelature Bom Jesus do Piauí was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Teresina as a suffragan on August 9, 1952.

On October 3, 1981, the territorial prelature Bom Jesus do Piauí - with a simultaneous name change - was raised to the diocese of Bom Jesus do Gurguéia.
