The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kyoto ( lat. : Dioecesis Kyotensis , Jap. カトリック京都教区 , katorikku Kyoto Kyoku ) is in Japan situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Kyoto .

history

Kawaramachi Cathedral in Kyoto

The Diocese of Kyoto was on June 17, 1937 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quidquid ad spirituale from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Osaka as the Apostolic Prefecture of Kyoto . The Apostolic Prefecture of Kyoto was on July 12, 1951 by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Inter supremi raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Osaka as a suffragan . The Kawaramachi Cathedral was designed by the Swiss architect Karl Freuler (1912–2000) and the stained glass windows were painted by Hans Stocker
