The Meixian diocese ( lat . : Dioecesis Chiaimensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Meizhou in the People's Republic of China .

history

Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Prefecture Kaying with the Breve Pastorale officium on February 20, 1929 from cessions of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Shantou . The pastoral care and mission was entrusted to the Maryknoll Missionary Order.

On June 18, 1935, she was raised to the rank of Apostolic Vicariate with the Bull Etsi inter . With the Apostolic Constitution Quotidie Nos it was raised to the diocese on April 11, 1946.

The official bishop of the diocese from 1988 to 2000 was Anthony Zhong Quanzhang. He was succeeded by Joseph Liao Hongqing , who was appointed by the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association and also recognized by the Holy See .
