The Roman Catholic Diocese of Salem ( lat. : Dioecesis Salemensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Salem .
history
Pope Pius XI founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Ad maius religionis on May 26, 1930 from cessions of territory from the dioceses of Kumbakonam , Mysore and the archdiocese of Pondicherry , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.
On January 24, 1997, it lost part of its territory to the Diocese of Dharmapuri .
