The Roman Catholic Diocese of San Ignacio de Velasco (Latin Dioecesis Sancti Ignatii Velascani , Spanish diócesis de San Ignacio de Velasco ) is one in Bolivia situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San Ignacio de Velasco .

history

The diocese of San Ignacio de Velasco was established on January 27, 1930 from the cession of territory by the diocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra as the Apostolic Vicariate of Chiquitos . The Apostolic Vicariate Chiquitos gave on December 13, 1951 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Vicariate Ñuflo de Chávez .

On November 3, 1994, the Vicariate Apostolic Chiquitos was raised to the diocese. In addition, the name of the diocese was changed to San Ignacio de Velasco . The diocese of San Ignacio de Velasco is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra as a suffragan .
