The Bistum Tolanaro ( lat. : Dioecesis Tolagnarensis ) is in Madagascar preferred Roman Catholic diocese based in Tolanaro .

history

The diocese of Tôlagnaro was on January 16, 1896 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Madagascar as the Apostolic Vicariate of Southern Madagascar . The Apostolic Vicariate of South Madagascar was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Fort-Dauphin on May 20, 1913 .

On September 14, 1955 the Apostolic Vicariate Fort-Dauphin was by Pope Pius XII. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Dum tantis and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Tananarive as a suffragan . The diocese of Fort Dauphin gave up on April 8, 1957 parts of its territory to establish the dioceses of Farafangana and Tuléar . On December 11, 1958, the diocese of Fort-Dauphin was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Fianarantsoa as a suffragan. The diocese of Fort Dauphin gave up on April 13, 1967 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Ihosy . On November 23, 1989, the diocese of Fort-Dauphin was renamed the Diocese of Tôlagnaro . The diocese of Tôlagnaro was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Toliara as a suffragan on December 23, 2003.
