Coordinates: 63 ° 56 ′ N , 19 ° 13 ′ O Bjurholm is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historical provinces of Ångermanland and Västerbotten . The main town of the municipality is Bjurholm .
The state roads 92 lead through the municipality to Umeå and Dorotea and the regional road 353 to Lycksele and Nordmaling . Bjurholm is Sweden's smallest municipality in terms of population.
geography
The municipality is located in the foothills of the Scandinavian Mountains and is characterized by a hilly landscape with deeply cut river valleys. The largest river is the Öreälven , on which the main town is located.
history
In 1974 the municipality was merged with the neighboring municipality of Vännäs . In 1983 both communities were separated again.
nature
The Balberget nature reserve is located a few kilometers west of Bjurholm. There is a nature and mineral educational trail there. Access is possible via the Balsjö camp center, from where an educational trail that provides information on hunting techniques starts.
The Lögdeälvens Vildmarksled starts 20 kilometers west of the village from Reichsstraße 92. This hiking trail is 85 kilometers long and leads through a landscape rich in gorges up to the Dragon Ridge (Dakkryggen).
economy
Agriculture and forestry are traditional and still important industries. Around 14% of the working population work in the primary sector (2% in the Reichs average). 17% are employed in industry (especially the wood processing industry).
places
There is only one larger town in the municipality : Bjurholm . Three others were småorter in 2005 with at least 50 but less than 200 inhabitants: Agnäs , Balsjö and Karlsbäck . All other places in the municipality, including Bastuträsk, Bredträsk, Mellanå, Sunnanå and Vitvattnet, now each have fewer than 50 inhabitants (the total population of the municipality has fallen by around 40% since 1970).
