Coordinates: 64 ° 12 ' N , 19 ° 43' O Vindeln is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province Västerbottens Lan and the historical province Vasterbotten . The main town of the municipality is Vindeln . European route 12 , regional route 363 and the railway line Ånge - Boden ( Norra stambanan ) runthrough the municipality.
geography
The municipality is located in the foothills of the Scandinavian Mountains and is characterized by the partially deeply cut valleys of the two rivers Ume älv and Vindelälven . The Vindelälven, which is completely natural, has several powerful rapids.
The Isälvleden, a 60 km long hiking trail along the Vindelälven, leads from Åmsele to Vindeln. There are several overnight huts along the way.
economy
Forestry and the wood processing industry are the most important branches of the economy.
Attractions
At Mårdsele, 64 kilometers northwest of the main town, are the Mårdseleforsen rapids . Over a length of two kilometers, the Vindelälven has a gradient of 17 meters. Narrow passages alternate with wider ones in which there are numerous islands. The area is easily accessible and the islands in the stream are connected by small bridges. The rapids are also excellent fishing spots (especially for salmon, grayling and trout).
