Black Lung is an American doom metal and rock band from Baltimore , Maryland that was formed in 2013.

history

After their third album Lowlands , the Flying Eyes members Adam Buffano (electric guitar) and Elias Schutzman (drums) decided to form the band Black Lung with singer and guitarist Dave Cavalier in winter 2013. The self-titled debut album was released in summer 2014. The band was then named "Best New Band" in the Baltimore City Paper . The publication was followed by a European tour with an appearance at the German Rockpalast Crossroads Festival . A second album followed in 2016 under the name See the Enemy . The album was produced by J. Robbins . The release was followed by another tour of Europe with an appearance at the Freak Valley Festival .

style

According laut.de the band dispenses with the use of a bass and sit instead on two down tuned guitars, their riffs of Led Zeppelin would remember. The debut album is aimed "primarily at niche fans and Flying Eyes entourage" and occasionally lets influences from Soundgarden and country borrowings shine through. The singing has a "melancholy overcast keynote". In his review of the debut album, Thomas Sonder from Metal Hammer wrote that the vocals are reminiscent of David Eugene Edwards at the age of 16 Horsepower . However, the singing is drowned out by the instruments. The song The Ghost is "[p] sychedelisch doom- rocking ". The group knows how to "tell small, fine stories as well as building massive reef walls". In the songs, the band also makes use of a " bluesy- trippy background music". Inhonorus from stormbringer.at noted in the review of See the Enemy that "[p] sychedelic guitar walls [...], noisy shimmering guitar sounds, heavy riffs and at the same time this lightness and floating melodies" can be heard. An influence from The Black Keys can be heard, but Black Lung is more driving and epic. The music has been described as a mix of early 1970s blues rock, doom metal, and psychedelic rock. There are pounding, psychedelic vibes in the song Behemaoth . The song Transmissions shows stoner rock riffs and suggests a comparison to Orange Goblin , while Nerve processed Black Sabbath riffs, Saint Vitus doom metal and psychedelic rock. In addition to influences from Saint Vitus and Psychedelic Rock, Crooked Finger also initially has riffs that would be similar to those of Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats .
