Blackmore's Night is an American music group , including the former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and his wife Candice Night .
prehistory
Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night met back in 1989 when Blackmore was playing in a charity soccer game and Candice Night was in the audience. Both quickly discovered that they share a passion for Renaissance music. After Blackmore left Deep Purple in 1993 in frustration, Rainbow reunited in 1995 . Candice Night was already there on the album Stranger in Us All as a background singer, as well as on the following tours from 1995 to 1997. In late 1997 Ritchie Blackmore decided to end the Rainbow era and to found the renaissance band Blackmore's Night . On October 5, 2008, Ritchie Blackmore and Candice Night were married in the United States.

style
Blackmore's Night play songs based on renaissance music . The traditional acoustic instrumentation is subtly supplemented with modern instruments. Blackmore has turned away from the riff- emphasized hard rock game and now plays his guitars mainly according to the classical school. Occasionally he also plays Deep Purple or Rainbow classics with electric guitar, such as B. Black Night or Soldier Of Fortune . The melodious singing of Candice Night is comparable to modern folk music. The lyrics are based on old folk songs or modern folk songs. The band plays live only in historical clothing , often in palaces and castles. Often the audience also appears in medieval clothing to the concerts. As a support act she was often accompanied by the German medieval music formation Des Geyers Schwarzer Haufen .
In the course of the recordings, there is always a collaboration with other well-known artists, for example Ian Anderson ( Jethro Tull ) or Joe Lynn Turner (formerly Rainbow and Deep Purple). Cover versions can also be heard on almost every album by the band and at concerts ; often from titles that were originally recorded by Blackmore with other bands. Blackmore's Night Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez , The Times They Are A-Changin by Bob Dylan , Ralph McTells Streets of London and the Rednex hit Wish You Were Here, among others . With Child in Time , Black Night , Smoke on the Water and Soldier of Fortune (all by Deep Purple) and Street of Dreams , 16th Century Greensleeves and Self Portrait (Rainbow), Blackmore's Night also play titles by Ritchie Blackmore's ex-bands. Furthermore, there are already interesting cover versions of Blackmore's Night pieces, such as B. a texted version of the song Memmingen under the name Tell Me Why by Thomas Pihale's Rainstorm Project .
