location
Blens is located in the Rur Valley in the Rureifel in the Eifel National Park . In addition to the high place protrude red sandstone rocks up, called the Jufferlei, Breideslei and Engelslei. They have not been allowed to climb since 1990.
Next to Blens are evenings (city of Nideggen) and Hausen.
history
The city of Heimbach and all its districts came from the Schleiden district to the Düren district on January 1, 1972 and merged with the city of Nideggen . On August 4, 1972, the Higher Administrative Court in Münster decided that Heimbach should become an independent municipality again.
Castle
Blens Castle was built in the 12th century by the Lords of Blens. In its present form it comes from a renovation in 1791. The two-storey manor house is surrounded by a four-winged farmyard. The paving of the courtyard with Rur pebbles, which is still preserved today, is a rarity . The castle is inhabited and is privately owned.
church
Directly next to the castle is the St. George Chapel, built of quarry stone from 1371. In 1807 the new chapel was inaugurated and consecrated to Saints George and Blasius .
traffic
Road 249 leads past Blens from Nideggen to Heimbach. The place has no through traffic. Local public transport is ensured by the Rurtalbahn , because Blens has had a stop on the Düren – Heimbach railway since 1903 . It was renovated in 1993 after it was taken over by the Dürener Kreisbahn (DKB).
economy
Blens has changed from a farming village to a tourist destination in recent years . There is a large campsite right on site .
