Bob Peck

Bob Peck (born August 23, 1945 in Leeds , England , † April 4, 1999 in London , England) was a British actor . He gained fame through the role of Ronald Craven in the television series On the Edge of Darkness and as the game warden Robert Muldoon in Jurassic Park .

Life

Bob Peck grew up in a working class family in his native Leeds. Before starting his acting career, he attended Leeds College of Art , where he received a degree in art and design.

Peck gained his first stage experience at the Royal Shakespeare Company , where he played with Ian McKellen , Donald Sinden and Judi Dench , among others . He performed with Sinden in the 1979/1980 season in Othello in London and Stratford-upon-Avon . His other roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company include that of Macbeth in 1976. Engagements for the National Theater followed .

In the 1970s, Peck's television career began with guest appearances on series on the BBC . First small roles followed in films such as Royal Flash (1975) and Parker (1984). In 1985, the screenwriter Troy Kennedy Martin cast him for the lead role of Ronald Craven in the television series He wrote, On the Edge of Darkness , which made Peck famous throughout the country. He received the 1986 British Academy Television Award for Best Actor for his performance .

In the following years Peck played in numerous film productions. In 1987 he played the leading roles in Uprising in Kenya and On the Black Hill . His portrayals of Byron in the star- studded science fiction film Slipstream achieved their first international fame in 1989 and that of an unnamed officer in the 1990's Lord of the Flies . In addition, Peck continued to appear in British television productions. From 1990 to 1991 he spoke to all characters in the BBC children's series Forget Me Not Farm .

Peck's final international breakthrough came in 1993 in the role of gamekeeper Robert Muldoon in Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park . This was followed in the same year an appearance as General Targo in the television series The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones .

Peck's later film appearances included roles in My Man Picasso , as Denton in The Opium War, and as Ravn in Miss Smilla's Sense of Snow . His last work was the dubbing voice for Joseph of Arimathäa in the animated film The Man of 1000 Miracles , which appeared posthumously in 2000 and was dedicated to Peck.

Bob Peck was married to actress Jill Baker since 1982, with whom she had a son and two daughters. In November 1994 he fell ill with cancer, of which he died on April 4, 1999 in his home in London. He was 53 years old. Ian McKellen once said of his fellow actors that he was the actor he learned the most from.
